This week we did all kinds of fun things. Our new web 2.0 tool is something called Mind Miester. You can make a map that appears to be a web, about anything you want. We had to make a Mind Miester web about A.S.P.E.C.T. That means A: Authority S: Sources P: Purpose E: Evenness C: Coverage T: Timeliness. These are important keys in finding the right information online for something. Below is the website link for this web 2.0 tool. I also posted MY Mind Meister map below.

Our grammar sentences for this week:
The meteor struck, and Hicks smiled stoically.
Yesterday, Jupiter was full and unusually bright.
Attacking and withdrawing are unpleasant alternatives.
Every day we have a sentence to complete by identifying all the parts of speech.
Our stems this week aren't that hard. The down part to our stems TEST this week, is that we have to take a test on all three weeks worth of stems! I have been studying hard this week. I have been doing the quizlets from schoology a lot lately. Our stems for this week were, homo, spect, duct, fer, pend, micro, hydro, photo, pan, penta, tele, vid, omni, ex, poly, re, hypo, pseudo, neuro, tomy, hema, proto, phon, mono, and viv. We have to take a test on stems that has 50 questions to it.
Below is a quizlet link:

We also did our digital drivers license. In one of the videos it explains that people who have a Facebook, a lot of them don't act like their self online like they do in real life. You should stay true to yourself. A lot of people even lie about their age. It is very bad when you want to or have to lie about your age online. There are people online who are a lot older and act like they are a lot younger. It can be dangerous sometimes when you talk to people you don't know. When you are socializing on Facebook, it is important to keep important information private. It is important to keep your information about YOU and not someone fake. When you talk to someone online make sure they are someone you know or they are your peers.
Overall my week has been fine. I get to go to Scarowinds again on Saturday. I can't wait until we go, I love going to Scarowinds. I can't wait until Monday, that means I get to start a new day, week and I get have have a new attitude.

Stream bed evidence found on Mars 9/28/2012
Scratch water off NASA's Mars rover Curiosity's list of things to find in a two-year quest to learn if the planet most like Earth in the solar system could have supported microbial life.
Less than two months after touching down inside a giant impact basin near the planet's equator, Curiosity has returned clear evidence of flowing water, scientists told reporters during a conference call Thursday.
The proof comes from analysis of pictures of a jagged slab of rock taken with a telephoto camera on the rover's mast.
The rock, which resembles a jack hammered chunk of broken sidewalk, is flecked with rounded pieces of gravel -- too big to have been carried by Martian winds.
Instead, Curiosity scientists are quite sure the gravel was deposited by a vigorously flowing stream, one that was between ankle- and knee-deep and likely flowed for thousands or even millions of years.
"We have now discovered evidence for water," said lead scientist John Grotzinger. "This makes a great starting point for us to do more sophisticated studies."
The rover is equipped with a variety of science instruments to analyze the chemistry and minerals of rocks and soils in its landing site, known as Gale Crater.
Though water is a key ingredient for life, it's not the only one.
"This particular kind of rock may or may not be a good place to preserve those components that we associate with a habitable environment,” Grotzinger said.
The two-year, $2.5 billion Curiosity mission is NASA's first astrobiology mission to Mars since the 1970s-era Viking probes. The goal is to assess if the Gale Crater landing site has or ever had the conditions to support and preserve life.

Weekly Review Blog Post 9/21/2012
Knowing what your words sound like to you in your head is good. Knowing what your words sound like out loud is better. When you create a blog make sure you read it out loud just to make sure it sounds accurate, and that it makes since. It would also help if you had ANOTHER person read your article. That is what we did this week in Mrs. Payseurs class. My partner was Maddy. I had to read her blog post, while in the meantime, she read mine.
You really want to watch out for those Phishers. Phishing is making phony, bogus websites that could be exact replicas of legitimate websites and mass-spamming them out using self-made software programs to get you to enter your personal information. Once submitted, your personal information is then sent to, say, my email address or my cgi box. People are often confused about which websites are phishing websites. You should be cautious when it comes to giving out your information to websites.
I have been mentioning cyberbullying a lot and just bullying in general. Cyberbullying is wrong, you should think before you post something mean on your Facebook page or before you message someone a nasty message. Think about yourself, do you think you would like someone to send you a mean nasty message, or write a mean post on Facebook about you for EVERYONE to see. Your words determine someone elses feelings. It is important for you to consider someones feelings. Lots of kids turn to suicide for this kind of thing. You shouldn't have a reason to bully someone period. To be a better person, smile at someone, say hi. This will go a long way by how someone feels about you.
It is very respectful whenever you get someones consent when you are posting a picture of you and your friends. Let's say it's you, your friend Brittney, and Alisa. You all took a group picture signifying your friendship. If Brittney doesn't like how she looks in that picture, you should really take it down, or crop her out. When you post a picture with someone else in it, you have to ask their permission. If not, that is classified as cyberbullying. You also need to remember to post appropriate pictures on Facebook or if you have one, Myspace. The pictures you post can be the ticket to your future, or the burden to your future. Here are some examples that show what a picture can do to your reputation.
We also did The Digital Drivers License. It showed that a young adult committed suicide because of someone bullying them. We learned about different ways to tell someone that they are doing something wrong without bullying them. For example, if your boyfriend or girlfriend was texting you constantly and you wanted them to stop, you don't say mean things like, "you are so annoying, texting me like that!" It is wrong, so don't do it.
Here are some definitions that we went over in class:
Reputation: The general impression of a person made by others or the public.
Persist: To continue and endure.
Context: Different factors that surround a piece of data that help determine it's meaning.
Tag: To add descriptions, labels, or a name to a photo or video.
We had also learned about a young woman, she was 25 years old. She had taken a picture at a party and the caption underneath that stated, "Drunken Pirate". The college professors at the college she attended realized that they didn't want a person out in the school world like that teaching. They suspending her of her degrees after she had already paid for them. I feel that was wrong because they didn't know the contents in the cup.
A web 2.0 tool is a new picture editing site we learned about. I used the site to edit the photos below. I think it is a negative web 2.0 tool. It gives bullies a free ride to out you to the public, and make you look bad by just adding something stupid to the picture. I see nothing positive about this site at all. People should just respect peoples privacy. Here is the link to the website.

GPS invention Thursday Current Event Lookup 9/20/2012
Global Positioning System
One of the greatest inventions today is the GPS (Global Positioning System). Many many years ago, navigators searched the heavens to find a system that would show them the way to their destination. On June 26th 1993, however, the answer became as clear as day. On that date, the U.S air force launched the 24th Navastar Satellite into orbit. We have GPS companies such as Magellan and Tom Tom. Today's GPS receivers are extremely accurate, thanks to their parallel multichannel design.
My reaction to this device is that we are very lucky people to have this. It tells us exactly where to go. Back then, people didn't have advantages like this. When explorers would go out to sea to find new lands, they took a chance of being lost. This impacts the world today because military people use GPS, police officers use GPS, scientists use GPS. Without GPS troops would be lost. Without GPS policeman wouldn't know where to go when they get a call in the police department. GPS is an important aspect of life in may ways.

Weekly Review Blog September 14 2012
This week in Introduction To Publications we made videos with animoto. The topic for this video was about respecting others while online. Respecting others online means that you do not bully. Cyber bullying can and will hurt someones feelings. Cyber bullying is very unprofessional. You should always send emails to people with etiquette, which means no using OMG or LOL, very unprofessional. You always, always, always need to give credit to someones work while your using it. Sometimes just putting a site under it, or the name of the creator doesn't always cut it. You have to ask permission first. Below is a link that shows a video that explains all of this.

This week we have been looking at sentences and writing what part of speech each word represents. It was hard to me at first, it still is sort of confusing. I know i will understand it soon though. The sentences Mrs. Payseur assigns are sort of difficult to me personally but i try my best. We have only had 3 sentences so far. Practice makes perfect. One of the sentences we have worked on is below.
This Friday we also have to take a test on the new stems we have studied. At first I was doubting myself because I thought they were kind of hard. Once I had studied them, I knew them like the back of my hand. Mrs. Payseur says that we are going to have to take the test with some of week one's stems. I feel like I will do well on this test today. Just like I said practice makes perfect!! Below is a link that will show you the stems we had to study.
Stems Week 2
Overall, my week was okay. I got sick Wednesday and had to stay home Thursday. I think I had a common cold, but it felt like strep throat. I really liked making the Animoto video, it was fun and it gave something to do at home.

Eco-Friendly Vehicles
Eco Friendly Vehicles 9/13/2012
The world these days has gone eco friendly crazy, which is a really good thing! As the world population increases, the people using vehicles also increase. Because of this air pollution is caused which further leads to global warming. We have come up with the brilliant idea of Hybrid cars and Electric cars. Making use of these eco friendly vehicles the emission of carbon-dioxide is drastically reduced which then reduces the air pollution.
Hybrid cars are the most eco-friendly cards on the road. They use both gas and battery power for propulsion. They also are friendly to your wallet and attract the highest auto insurance discounts. Their only disadvantage is that they still give gas emissions, since half the time they are in operation gasoline is used.
Electric vehicles are powered soley by elctricity and or batteries, the name says it all. Hydrogen is typically used to power the batteries. These are the most eco-friendly vehicles on the market, for the cause being is that it uses NO pollutants. Their only disadvantage is that their costs of acquisition and maintenance are both high. However, new technology has found ways to produce electric cars and sell them at affordable prices, so it’s getting cheaper to buy an electric car.
These eco-friendly vehicles effect the world today by cutting down pollution. Pullution is on of Americas major issues. Since these vehicles dont use gas like a regular vehicle would, it doesn't give off harmful fumes. The more ec-friendly cars on the road, the better the atmosphere!

Week 3
Friday September 7th Weekly Blog
This week has been very informational. Some words I have learned are as follows, RSS was something interesting that I learned. RSS is something that makes reading recently published blogs easier. To use RSS, you go through Google Reader. My Google Reader link is below. We also learned about email etiquette which will be very helpful to me.
Google Reader
| http://nyobetabeat.files.wordpress.com/2011/11/google_reader_enlarged1.gif Google Reader Picture 11/02/11 |
This week in Intro To Publications we learned how to use RSS. As stated above, RSS keeps you up to date with your favorite blogs. We had to watch a video and had some following questions that were for a grade.
Some positive things to this new web 2.0 tool is that you don't have to search for the site just to read the blog. I love it when you have the easy way out...most definitely on the internet. A negative aspect is that it is kind of complicated to me and sort of confusing. I didn't really catch up on how to subscribe and put them into folders. After asking questions though it helped.
This week we also learned 12 things students should never do on social media. The thing we don't want is more rules on the internet, but during the same time we complain, on the other hand we are doing stupid things to encourage more rules. First of all, bullying, there are so many cases on suicide from online bullying that it is shameful. Teens are not the only guilty party though....you still see adults on Facebook talking back and forth in arguments. The only way to stop this nonsense is making rules. We don't want them, but we are the cause of them. You should never trash you teachers, it's a no-no! Just like I said, bullying doesn't just apply to student-to-student interactions. Your instructors have a right to be safe online and to have privacy. Don't put on the internet where you are at what ever time, especially when your alone. Never threaten someone online...that puts lots of felonies under your belt, that experience would not be fun. Never rely on privacy settings 100%, always make sure you are not putting your personal information online for others to see......it isn't smart.

We also learned more grammar this week. The topic for grammar this week was phrases. We learned about appositives, prepositional, and verbals. I love learning about grammar, i'm always that one annoying person that corrects your grammar. Some new words I learned was a simple sentence which has one independent clause.

1. Topic: First Computer invention
2. Article Title: When was the first computer invented?
3. Article Source: Computer Hope
4. Summary: There is no easy answer to this question because of all the different classifications of computers. The early British computer known as the EDSAC is considered to be the first stored program electronic computer. The computer performed its first calculation on May 6, 1949 and was the computer that ran the first graphical computer game, nicknamed "Baby".
5. Reaction: This invention to me is a very important time in the past. Without computers we would have to write everything on paper instead of just easily typing it up. The brilliant minds of Facebook, Google, Instagram, and more would not have been able to advertise their talents by creating these lovely sites. The average American uses a computer almost every day. Without computers the education we receive today wouldn't be so advanced. So i'm glad computers we're invented.
6. World Impact: As stated above, the average American uses a computer at least once a day. Without computers we wouldn't have the great education that we have today. It makes it easier on teachers, receptionist, scientists, and many many more.
