What Is Wrong With The iPad?
Almost everyone has an iPad now, but little did we pay attention to it's flaws. First of all, the iPad has no camera. When consumers buy things like the iPad that they use for to get on Facebook, Twitter, or Myspace, your going to want a camera. There are well over 200 million photos uploaded per day, or around 6 billion per month.  There are currently almost 90 billion photos total on Facebook. When there are that many people uploading photos, it would be smart for the iPad to have a camera, don't you think?

Second, it doesn't multitask. When you spend your money on something, you expect the best out of it. When you are a busy person, and have less time to do things,  you need something that will help you. When it comes to your computer, you should be able to do all the things you want, in a certain amount of time. Looking on facebook, while listening to music in the background. iPad does not have that feature.

Third, the battery charge is not that great. The iPad is known to not hold a good charge. Personally, I would like to know that I will be able to use what I have, when I want it.

The price of the iPad comes in different models.

In the United States, prices are:

Wi-Fi Only
16GB - $499
32GB - $599
64GB - $699

Wi-Fi + 3G
16GB - $629
32GB - $729
64GB - $829

I feel like the iPad cost way to much. I would not buy it. The Kindle I feel is alot better than the iPad.

Weekly Review Blog 10/25/12

We had some new terms, and even watched a movie about cyberbullying. Our new terms for this week were, represent, persona, avatar, anonymous, and inhibited.

Represent: How you present yourself to others; label.

Persona: An image or personality you show to others.

Avatar: Graphic image to represent you online.

Anonymous: Hidden identity, used online most of the time by fakes.

Inhibited: Careful or restrained in actions or impulses.

The new Web 2.0 tool that was presented to us  was Glogster. Glogster allows you to put information, pictures, and videos on a background that looks like a pinboard! This tool was very fun to use. We used this tool to show 5 tips on being real online. Lots of people put fake facebook profiles online. While you are online you should base your profiles on your own personality. You persona is what people treat you as. I found nothing bad about this new web 2.0 tool, I love it!!
Here is the ling for Glogster: Glogster Link
Below is my glogster I made.

Cyberbullying affects me greatly. Going on the internet, I have to watch my back while going on sites all the time. It gets annoying.
We watched a movie Tuesday about cyberbullying. The movie was titled "Cyberbully". The movie was about a girl who had gotten a laptop for her birthday. After getting the laptop she made a social media profile on a site call "Cliquesters". After making her profile, her crush added her as a friend. Her friend saw how excited she was and got annoyed thinking Scott only wanted to hook up with her friend then never talk to her again. After that her friend went home and made a fake cliquesters profile based on a gorgeous guy from another school. This "gorgeous guy" added Taylor Hildredge, the main character who got the laptop. After adding her "he" started flirting with Taylor. One day at lunch that was all about to change. Scott, her crush, asked her to the dance. Samantha Caldone, who had made the fake account based on the "gorgeous guy" was not happy. She went home and put a status saying "Taylor hildredge is so nasty and gave me an HIV" After that, it was all harsh for Taylor, everyone was cyberbullying her. Below is the actual movie.

Our DDL this week was about giving out your personal information. Think about this for a minute. If someone you never knew had asked you for your bank account information, would you give it to them, no of course not. "So", you ask, "what does that have to do with facebook or myspace?" well, if you give your personal information out at any time, they could ruin your reputation by putting things on you profile that isn't true. By giving away your profile  username and password, is like giving the person a free ride to mess with your persona. Also, you should always make passwords no one would guess. Try using long passwords, or password about information no one knows about.

The digital literacy component was about being real online. When you present yourself online, it needs to be about YOU. While making a profile on Facebook, put a picture that represents you. While putting your age, height, weight, so on and so forth, put true information. If someone sees you in person and you don't look like what you put online, they may not except you. On the other hand, while playing an online game, it is okay to exaggerate sometimes. People get on games to get away from reality.

iPhone 5 Tech Current Events 10/21/2012

                                                             iPhone 5

Deciding when to upgrade is a funny, sometimes expensive thing. Carrier contracts that subsidize the cost of a new iPhone are usually for two years, so it's traditional to upgrade every other model or less. You also want to time it just right, during the iPhone development cycle, so you don't buy a phone months before it's outdated.

Do you long for more screen space/watch a lot of movies?

Perhaps you've heard that the iPhone 5 is taller. This is true. After testing its tallness we've found that there is more space on the screen, which is no longer as short as the previous iPhone screens.
Expert: Why I'm not buying the iPhone 5
Apple's map hiccups
Apple fans line up to buy new phone

The phone retains its width but is now 9 millimeters taller -- that's one extra row of icons. The dimensions are perfect for watching widescreen movies, which were previously smaller and letter-boxed. The space also gives all other apps a bit more breathing room. Third-party applications must now redesign their apps to fix the new aspect ratio -- which requires time and resources -- so until then, older apps will be shown at normal size, the bar of unused screen space cloaked in mourning-black.
Hear fans' musical ode to new iPhone

There is a market for much larger smartphone screens, and companies like Samsung have delivered with spacious, high-resolution smartphones. This is largely a matter of preference, but if you find that the iPhone 5's screen is still just too small for you, you may need to defect to something like the Samsung Galaxy S3 which has a 4.8-inch screen.

Does your current phone feel slow?

Each iPhone is typically faster than its predecessor, and phones tend to slow down over time. Apple has added a speedier processor to the iPhone 5 in the form of an A6 chip. The company claims it is up to twice as fast, and after testing, the difference is definitely noticeable.

Holding on to a slightly slower iPhone might not be much of an issue if you primarily use it for common tasks -- calls and texts, e-mailing, Twitter and Facebook, reading, even watching movies. If you don't find yourself grumbling at how slow your phone is, and you're still reeling from the speed improvements over the last iPhone you bought, you can probably carry on blissfully unaware of the difference.

However, if you use your iPhone for bigger tasks like playing graphic games, the speed is a very welcome bump indeed. Another place it's a noticeable improvement is the camera (more on that in a moment).

There are also free steps you can take to try and speed up your current phone. Free up some hard drive space by uninstalling apps you never use, emptying Safari's cache and clearing out photos, videos and music (see exactly what's taking up space in Settings->General->Usage). Make sure you regularly close any apps running in the background.

Is your iPhone your primary camera?

Thanks to decent image quality and the ability to share photos and videos instantly, the iPhone is probably more popular as a camera than a telephoning device. The iPhone 5 has the same 8-megapixel camera sensor as the iPhone 4S, but Apple did make a few hardware tweaks to make it fit into the thinner body and to improve image quality.

The best camera improvement is actually just plain old speed. You can take rapid-fire shots as fast as your finger can tap on the shutter button. Tapping to focus is instant. For anyone who has ever missed a moment because of the iPhone's lagging trigger, this is just awesome.
The new iPhone 5 lets users take panorama images.
The new iPhone 5 lets users take panorama images.

Apple added a new panorama feature to the Photos app, and while there are numerous third-party panorama apps available, such as Microsoft's Photosynth, the Apple feature manages to beat them at their own game. The stitching is both faster and higher quality than competitors, and the final image is higher resolution.

Other adjustments to the camera include improved low-light images and reduced noise.

Do you use your phone for navigation?

If so, there is a slight caveat.

Every iPhone release comes with its own bit of drama. Sometimes it's overblown, like Antennaga2te, when holding your case-less phone in a very specific position could cause it to drop calls. iPhone 4S users reported battery issues. For the iPhone 5, the issue De jour is its new maps app.

Every iPhone 5 comes with iOS 6 pre-installed. That means the old maps app is automatically out, replaced with Apple's first go at a map application. It adds turn-by-turn directions and nice 3D graphics, but drops transit directions and decreases accuracy.

Apple has always excelled at design and smart user interfaces, but it is not a data company. While it continues to work to make this app what it should be, the best solution is to wait for Google to release its own third-party maps app for iOS. (The company is mum on when exactly that will be, but it will probably happen soon.) In the meantime, there are many other map apps in the Apple App Store, and you can still access Google's service through Safari, though the experience is slower and less intuitive.

Do you like beautiful things?

The most impressive part of the new iPhone is its design. Apple is comparing the level of construction to a "finely crafted watch." Like a luxury item, its design is impeccable, the attention to detail visible on every seam and surface. It also tells time.

Not everyone integrates their iPhone 5 into an outfit like a Rolex. If you are one of the many people who protect their iPhone with an opaque case, the details won't be visible to people around you. In that situation, you still get the satisfaction of a well-made device, but previous iPhone's were also finely crafted and are still in perfectly good shape.

The most dramatic physical difference of the new phone is that it is thinner and lighter. But while a great overall improvement, that's not enough of a reason to warrant upgrading unless you find yourself constantly bemoaning how heavy and fat your existing phone is. If you wear skinny jeans, this might be the one upgrade you were waiting for.

Do you have anything older than an iPhone 4S?

If you have an iPhone 3GS or earlier, upgrade. Do it for the screen. The retina display introduced on the iPhone 4 has been further refined for the iPhone 5 and in side-by-side comparisons with all screens at full brightness, the colors do look more vivid on the iPhone 5.

If you have an iPhone 4, the decision is harder. Consider what new features you really need. If you would get a lot of use out of the Siri voice-assistant, for example, this is a good time to upgrade. If you are a hardcore mobile gamer or serious iPhone photographer, the speed is worth it. But if you find that your two-year-old, well-crafted iPhone is holding up nicely, perhaps stick it out for another year.

IPhone 4S owners should just relax and enjoy their current phones. Wait a year for the next iteration, when your carrier will offer you the upgrade at the subsidized price and all the iPhone 5 owners will suddenly be stuck with old technology.

Here is a video explaining the iPhone 5 and what it does:

Weekly Review Blog Post 10/12/12

Our digital literacy component for the week was cyber bullying. Cyber bullying is a huge problem all around the world. When a person is cyber bullying, that usually means that they are afraid to confront the victim in person. Cyber bullying is when someone is deliberately hurting someones feelings online or through text message. In the case of cyber bullying there is the target, offender, by stander, and up stander.

Target - Victim; the one who is being bullied.

Offender - Bully; person with malicious intent.

By stander - Eyewitness who does nothing about the situation.

Up stander - Eyewitness who takes action.

Escalate - When the situation becomes more intense.

De-escalate - When the problem decreases, make less intense.

When you do nothing about the cyber bullying, it usually escalates. Arguing with the person makes the situation escalate, it takes two people to argue. When you get others involved, it will escalate. When you tell an adult, the problem usually de-escalates. When you don't react, the person may get bored with the situation. Cyber bullies usually tend to look for attention or a crowd. This affects me because nowadays it is hard to be safe online. People want to expose you online by finding your information such as, pictures, videos, even your address. You never want to give away your information, or share a picture you regret sharing later with someone you don't know. People use things like that to blackmail you. Once you are out in the real world, that picture determines your future. It is easy to press send, but it is not easy to take it back. It affects me because I am at a greater risk for losing my future opportunities because of that send button. Be cautious and you will be more safe.

Here is a clip from the movie "Cyberbully":

Never cyber bully, it is wrong and stupid. People end up committing suicide over this epidemic. Think before you type, you could save a life!

WeVideo is the web 2.0 device, and let me tell you....it is AWESOME! This new web 2.0 device allows you to edit your webcam videos and add music. This week we were instructed to make a cyberbullying video using this new site. I thought it was a really fun new device. In my video I explained how I am now being cyberbullied on Facebook. It hurts, ALOT. It makes you think you aren't worth anything and that you shouldn't be around. I made the  video about me being cyberbullied so everyone can see that this is not a game, and it is not funny. This web 2.0 device is all positive in my eyes. You get to pick your music, and edit your video that you made. You get to put captions and word bubbles also. I see nothing negative about this web 2.0 device.

Here is the link for this new web 2.0 device:

Here is the video I made about cyberbullying. Enjoy!

This week has been interesting. Friday is a half day and I am so excited for the weekend! I hope everyone has gotten a good outlook on this subject. Have a nice weekend.

Wednesday Current Event Look Up 10/10/12

The new apple iPad people are buzzing about

"It is amazing," Apple CEO Tim Cook said at a San Francisco unveiling. "We've taken it to a whole new level, and we are redefining the category that Apple created with the original iPad."

The new 9.7-inch display screen will feature a "retina display" of 2047 by 1536 pixels, compared with the current model's 1024 by 768 pixels.

To break it down, that's a total of 3.1 million pixels on the display screen.

"Your retina in your eye cannot discern those individual pixels," said Apple Senior Vice President Phil Schiller. "The images on it look stunning."
Tim Cook explains why iPad wins market

The new iPad will be available in the United States and 9 other countries March 16 and cost the same as the iPad 2 -- from $499 to $829 based on storage capacity and Wi-Fi capacity. Pre-orders were opened at Apple's online store on Wednesday.
New iPad poster child of 'post PC world'

The new version will be available in the U.S. on AT&T and Verizon and will be the first iPad to connect to 4G networks (a fact that, at least for now, remains academic in most cities). It also will go on sale Friday in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Switzerland, the UK and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

"This new iPad has the most wireless bands of any device that has ever shipped, and it is truly revolutionary," Schiller said.

And the new iPad will be the first to run on 4G wireless networks, a source familiar with the device's specifications told CNNMoney on Wednesday.

It will have a a 5-megapixel camera, representing a significant leap from the current iPad's so-so lens.

Surprisingly, "the new iPad" was as close to a name as Apple gave the gadget Wednesday. Predictions had bounced back and forth between "iPad 3" and "iPad HD" before the event. But the announcement ended without an official name being announced.

Whether that means Apple plans to abandon an iPhone-like naming routine (iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S) in favor of occasional upgrades to "the iPad" remains to be seen.

On Wednesday, Cook also announced an updated version of Apple TV, the company's Web-TV integration device that competes with products like Google TV, Roku and Boxee.

The system supports 1080p, or "Full HD" high-definition video, up from the current model's 720p. It will be available for $99 starting next week and could pave the way for what's expected to be Apple's next project: a fully integrated high-definition television.

"Across the year, you're going to see a lot more of this kind of innovation," Cook teased at the end of Wednesday's event. "We are just getting started."

When the iPad was introduced in early 2010, tablets already existed, but none had become popular with mainstream consumers. Some analysts wondered if there would be a market for a device that falls somewhere between a smartphone and a laptop but doesn't fully replace either.

The answer was a resounding "yes." The company has sold more than 55 million iPads worldwide to date.

Before his death in October, Apple co-founder Steve Jobs predicted that 2011 would be the "year of the copycat" in the tablet space. In large part, it was, and that was bad news for Apple's rivals, as competitors from HP to Samsung to Motorola tried unsuccessfully to offer a viable alternative to the iPad.

The new iPad will arrive in a somewhat trickier landscape.

By going smaller and simpler, Amazon made a splash with its Kindle Fire over the holidays, while rival bookseller Barnes & Noble countered with its popular Nook Tablet. Both devices start at $199. The new Acer Iconia A500 offers more memory than the iPad 2, while other companies have begun flooding the market with devices that are smaller and cheaper than Apple's standard-bearer.

Just last week, Microsoft rolled out its Windows 8 operating system for tablets, suggesting that Windows-based tablets could be making a serious run.

In a move perhaps designed as a shot at these rival upstarts, Cook announced Wednesday that the price on the iPad 2 will be slashed $100. So, a 16GB, Wi-Fi-only model will sell for $399, making it more competitive with the lower-end tablets.

Apple surprised many observers last year when the iPad 2 was priced the same as the original iPad: ranging from $499 to $829, depending on 3G capability and storage capacity.

Cook also announced Wednesday that the 25 billionth app has been downloaded from the App Store. Perhaps significantly, that app was downloaded in China.

Yes we had to do all of this!!

This week we learned about sex-ting.  Sex-ting can ruin your life. Just one press of the send button can change your future. Sex-ting is sending or receiving sexually explicit photos or videos through text or other digital devices. If your partner asks you to send a nude picture or video, say no. Lots of people pull the "if you love me then you will do it...." don't fall for something stupid like this. Sex-ting can most likely ruin your reputation, it always does. Before you press send, think about what you are sending.....Below is a video explaining sex- ting.

We also talked about texting and driving. Texting and driving is estimated to kill an average of 16,000 people a year. When you are driving and you get a text it can wait. When you kill someone from texting and driving, it is basically saying that the text was worth more to you than the other person who was injured or killed. There should never be a reason that you don't have your eyes on the road.

                                                  Our Definitions For The Week:
Self Disclosure: Sharing private, sensitive, or confidential information about yourself with others.

Reciprocate: To give in return.

Sex-ting: Sending or receiving sexually explicit photos or videos through text or other digital devices.

This week we learned an interesting web 2.0 resource. This web 2.0 device allows you to make your own comic strip, fun, yes I know. We used this interesting device by making our own comic strip explaining sex-ting, and how to build an online relationship. The web 2.0 device is call Make Beliefs Comix. Below is the link and my comic strips. This is a very positive web 2.0 device because it is fun to make comics out of what you want it to be. A negative aspect to this is it only gives you a choice of only 3 squares to make your comic. Also, I tried to use this for a  science project, and I couldn't because the only characters it had was people. I had to do a project on the sun and the site didn't have any characters based on the sun.
Make Beliefs Comix Link

We also learned how to build relationships online with your partner. Below is a list on how to build relationships online.
