Scams And Schemes

This week was all about scams and schemes. We took a closer look at what is real and what is not real. Things may seem to look very professional to you, but the real truth is…it’s not. Getting on your laptop everyday means seeing ads all of the time, yes or no? Believe it or not, most of the ads you see are FAKE. These ads are made from internet predators waiting for someone to come along and fall for their ads.

These people steal your identity by asking for credit card numbers, birth dates, full names, social security numbers, phone numbers, and more. This is called a scam. People will do anything to steal peoples identity, this is called identity theft. When you get your identity stolen, it's one of the most horrible things you can go through. Getting your identity stolen means being under a sea of debt. When you open these ads and give your information to these people, this means you are vulnerable. When appear to be vulnerable, it is very easy for other ads to pull you in. When you get those phony emails, pop-up messages, social media messages, texts, calls, or links to fake websites in order to hook you into giving out your personal information is called phishing.  This effects me because later in life when I have a bank account, I will have to watch my back and be careful about what I click on.

Identity theft, what they are looking for

  1. Your full name...
  2.  Your bank account...
  3.  Your social security number...
  4. Your date of birth...
  5. Your phone number...

Description: Idfentity theft

What can happen to you if your identity is stolen?

  • Lose your money
  • Bankrupt
  • You get blocked from accounts
  • You open doors to going to jail
  • Your responsible for purchased items
  • You get bad credit

5 ways to protect yourself from online scammers:

Try to avoid opening the message or email in the first place. Not only can they steal your information, they can give your computer a virus. Try not to click on any links or download any attachments. Clicking on any links can also give your computer a virus. Don't reply to the recipient. This will give them the hint that you are not interested. Mark it as "junk mail" or "spam" into your email just to get rid of it.

Our web 2.0 for this week was Tagxedo. This web 2.0 device lets you make somewhat like a wordle. You type in the words you want, press submit and it forms into a jumble of words. After making this wordle, you can change the font, color, shape, etc. This web 2.0 device is very fun to use, and it makes your lesson plan very interesting. I see nothing wrong with this new device. Below is a Tagxedo I made, and the URL for this amazing website:
